Chinese Poetry Talk by Michelle Dibello
Ong Dance Company will perform a Korean Drum Dance

Professor Michelle Dibello is a scholar in the field of Chinese Language and Culture Education who has worked with non-profit groups around the country. She lectures in Chinese as well as Chinese poetry. Kyoungil Ong, the director of Ong Dance Company, grew up dancing since the age of four, in Seoul, Korea. She was a lead dancer for the National Dance Company of Korea, and has toured in over 30 countries in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Ong Dance Company was developed as a way to shine light on Korean culture in the Bay Area, and togive local Korean immigrants and Korean Americans a chance to express themselves and connect with their cultural heritage through the arts.

Music & Politics Talk by Jindong Cai
Tea Ceremony Demonstration led by Chieko Nishino

Professor Jindong Cai is an associate professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Studies. He has extensive conducting experience and holds scholarly interests in the performing arts of China. Urasenke Tea Ceremony is the premier school/family of tea ceremony in Japan. Tea ceremony is very deliberate, delicate, and aesthetically pleasing. The ceremony involves making, serving, and consuming the tea in a certain prescribed fashion. Tea ceremony is an art form that is being practiced less and less in Japan, so efforts to continue the tradition should be appreciated. This interactive demonstration will be led by Chieko Nishino.

Traditional Japanese Theater Talk by Indra Levy
Stanford Chinese Dance Group Workshop and Performance
Professor Indra Levy studies modern Japanese literature and film, also teaching courses on Japanese history and translation. She will discuss the development of modern Japanese film with us. Stanford Chinese Dance Group will host a workshop with the students as well as perform an umbrella dance.
November 15, Wednesday:
Martial Arts Night
Martial Arts and Movies Talk by Janice Kam Foong
Interactive Demonstration from Stanford Judo followed by Stanford Tae Kwon Do Performance

Janice Kam Foong is a PhD student in the department of Asian Languages. As a recipient of the Centennial Teaching Assistant Awards, she is interested in early Chinese history and philosophy. Showcasing the talents of martial arts groups on campus, the performance part will begin with Stanford Judo demonstrating choke-holds with the guests. Afterwards, Stanford Tae Kwon Do will perform for the audience.
